About

John was born in Dallas on March 6, 1978 and was raised in North Texas.

He placed his faith in Jesus Christ on May 21, 1984 and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton the following Sunday by Pastor Wayne Allen.

In 1996 he answered the call to vocational service, was licensed to gospel ministry by FBC Carrollton, and was ordained by the First Baptist Church of Euless in 2004.

John holds a BA in Biblical Studies from Dallas Baptist University, an MDivBL & ThM in New Testament from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and is currently a PhD Student in New Testament at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

During his time at DBU he met Charlotte Elizabeth “Beth” Pitman and they were married, both having graduated from college, on December 30, 2000. Beth holds a BA in Psychology & Religious Education.  John and Beth have two daughters: Reagan Noel, born Dec. 15, 2008; and Kennedy Ann, born June 23, 2011.

John’s business experience includes sales with Xerox, Danka Office Imaging, Southwest Office Systems, Thomson Publishing PPC, and as a pet-waste removal technician with Pet-Butler (yep!).

Having pastored at churches for over a decade in east and north Texas to Youth, College Students, Single Adults, and even as a church administrator for a time, John moved to Illinois where he presently serves as the Adult Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Maryville since Easter Sunday April 13, 2009.

John, Beth, and Reagan traveled to FBC Maryville in view of a call on March 8, 2009 and were present that morning when Pastor Fred Winters was shot and killed while preaching the gospel during the 8:15AM service (see John’s Article in Church Executive August 1, 2010 “In View of A Call: Leadership and Martyrdom in the Midwest”). The following Sunday the church voted unanimously (-1) to bring him on staff and the Lord has richly blessed his ministry.

John has a passion for God’s Word to see lives transformed and grow through the power of the good news shared and lived-out every day. He wants to reach the lost with the gospel and loves leading the body of Christ to grow together: building-up the church to make more and better disciples, glorifying God, in all the Earth.
